Seraya
Wood type
Seraya is a variant of dark red meranti found mainly in Malaysia, both on the mainland and on the islands. It is also known as meranti bukit.
This wood species differs from nemesu in its volumetric mass, hardness and colour. Whereas the bulk density of nemesu is 640-860 kg/m³, that of seraya is 400-700 kg/m³. The same applies to the hardness of both: nemesu has a hardness of 825 N while seraya has a hardness of 780 N. So it is lighter and less hard than nemesu, but it otherwise possesses the same excellent properties. You can also physically perceive the difference between seraya and nemesu. Seraya turns light red and nemesu dark red.
Seraya is suitable for exterior joinery.
