Rosewood
Wood type
One of the most colourful tropical hardwoods available on the market is rosewood.
The basic colour of rosewood is very varied, ranging from blackish-brown to brownish-red, and the wood can be recognised by its irregular and dark-coloured streaks. Rosewood is a CITES-protected wood species. This means that there are strict rules about trading products on this list. The variety named on this list is South American Rio rosewood Dalbergia.
The rosewood Denderwood trades comes from Southeast Asia and is Indian rosewood, or sonokeling. Rosewood owes its popularity mainly to its hardness and durability. It is not for nothing that rosewood is classified in durability class 1 and has many applications. An interesting fact: rosewood is often used to make musical instruments. Guitars in particular are made of rosewood, but also xylophones or wind instruments often choose this unique type of wood.
