Kempas
Wood type
Kempas wood is a tropical hardwood species originating from Southeast Asia, more specifically from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Kempas can be recognised by its dark red-brown colour. The properties of this hardwood are often compared to those of bankirai, partly because it is also in durability class 2. Because Kempas is a very stable wood species, it is difficult to work with. One point of interest: black discolouration can occur when damp kempas wood comes into contact with iron.
