Ipé
Wood type
When we talk about the world's most durable wood species, all eyes are on ipé wood. That is the commercial name for the botanical species Tabebuia spp. This tropical hardwood originates from South American forests and, as the world's most durable wood species, it naturally finds itself in durability class 1.
It owes its high prestige mainly to its excellent properties. Ipe is not susceptible to wear and its stability and durability make it the ideal hardwood for decking. It is also highly resistant to the effects of water and chemicals and can therefore be used as decking around the swimming pool or for all kinds of other indoor and outdoor wood applications. Its multifunctional use and exclusive properties make ipé wood a good alternative to, for example, padauk or teak.
The colour of ipé wood sometimes varies. It can range from dark brown with light green stripes to light red-brown. These green streaks are actually ingredients and will not detract from the appearance of your wood. They sometimes appear along the length of the wood, but do create a beautiful and unique look. Of course, it goes without saying that the price of ipé wood is in the higher end of the wood market, due to its properties and durability. If you would like to buy ipé, you can always ask one of our sellers.
