Cumaru
Wood type
One of the most popular hardwood species from South America is cumaru hardwood.
This wood species is in durability class 1 and has enormously good properties. Cumaru wood is in fact known as a very stable wood species and has a beautiful colour. It is available in a light red-brown to light yellow-brown colour. The red-brown colour is usually slightly better quality than the yellow-brown, but they both have a nice discolouration. Cumaru is also recognisable by its beautiful flame markings.
On top of that, it is a very good alternative to ipé and bankirai. Based on its properties, cumaru wood is therefore more qualitative than bankirai but remains cheaper than ipé wood in terms of price. A fun fact about cumaru: the beans provide a flavouring that can replace vanilla. Cumaru is available from Denderwood as a decking board.
