American white oak
Wood type
American white oak or American white oak, is a type of wood very similar to European oak. But as the name suggests, this hardwood comes mainly from American and Canadian forests.
You can recognise the difference because American white oak is usually sawn falling wide on the flat surface and the beautiful flame markings that go with it. You won't see American white oak quarter-sawn any time soon. This wood species is in durability class 2-3 and can therefore be considered moderately durable to durable. It is by nature a strong and fairly hard wood species, which largely explains its popularity. The wood itself colours yellow to medium brown and has white sapwood. Moreover, it can be worked easily and is mostly available in larger lengths. The price of American white oak tends to be cheaper than European oak.
